'Wheatley Park Sixth form football team reached the final of the u19 County Cup competition played at Oxford City against Burford School on Thursday 30th April captained by Dan Scoble.

After a close opening first half, both teams going in at 0-0, the second half started to open up with both teams having chances to score the first goal. As the game looked to be heading to extra-time, Max Jones broke through the Burford defence and as he was about to shoot, he was brought down for a penalty, which centre back Sam Elbro duely dispatched.

2015 County Cup u18 Winners

Burford pushed forwards in the last 5 minutes looking for an equaliser, but despite a few scares, the boys hung on and completed a win with a well taken strike from Max Jones from outside of the box that went in via the far post.

It was a fantastic way to end what has been an excellent season for the team, showing amazing team spirit and determination as well as playing the game in the right way by showing respect at every level and have been a real credit to the school.

Well done!!

WPS Alumni Database

We have recently signed up to a charity called Future First  that supports schools in the state sector setting up a thriving and engaged alumni community.

One of the key things they will do is help the school build a network of former students who, over the years may be able to offer their support, for example as career role models, e-mentors, work experience providers, donors or volunteers in a range of different ways. To help the school build its network and develop our Alumni database please can sign up using this link.. Future First news articles.

Oxfordshire Young Carers Awards

Rosie Cox and Abdullah Iqbal attended the awards ceremony on behalf of Wheatley Park School on Wednesday 8th July at Magdalen College, Oxford.Careers thumb

The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the amazing work these young people offer their families and to learn about other schools who are supporting their Young Carers.

During the evening WPS were presented with a certificate and badge for the Young Carers Bronze Award.

For WPS to be successful in receiving the Bronze we had to provide evidence that the School has successfully identified young Carers attending our school and will support them as a group of vulnerable learners.

Certificate thumb 2WPS will show a commitment to supporting their needs both within the School environment and out.

Our next stage will be to work towards the Silver Award, this will involve getting to know our Young Carers and identify their needs and the level of support they require. We also aim to support with a regular lunch time club where they can access support and advice and have some fun with others in the same position as them.

The photo with the the 3 pebbles represents the number of Carers there are  each pebble was decoratedPebbles thumb by 1 young carer and EVERY pebble represents 144 young Carers, every person at this event was given a pebble to take home and keep.
