Wheatley Park Sixth Form

As a specialist arts college we offer excellent opportunities for young people who are interested in media and arts. The results speak for themselves - every year, our arts students reach the national top five. The curriculum offers a broad range of qualifications including AS and A2 level courses in over twenty subjects.

All our students who wish to go on to Higher Education successfully obtain places at university, including Oxford and Cambridge. A full programme of meetings, lessons, visits and conferences supports the transition into Higher Education, and members of the Sixth Form Team assist students making applications. We also ensure that students not applying to University are supported in our Sixth Form.

Sixth Form Courses

All the subjects offered at Wheatley Park are available at both AS and A2 level, subject to there being sufficient demand. Advanced level courses are aimed at students who have achieved at least five GCSEs at grades A* to C including English and Maths.

The courses have been constructed to make the first year of study as accessible as possible, easing the transition from GCSEs to advanced level study. AS level qualifications are recognised both by universities and by employers; they give you valuable feedback about your progress in the first year of your course, and provide a firm basis for decisions about your future. The A2 units of work studied in Year 13 develop and examine higher level skills. Most universities will expect you to achieve at least two A2 qualifications.

Most subjects take eight or nine 60 minute lessons per fortnight, and you will generally have two teachers covering different parts of the course. You will be expected to complement your class work with private study: this may involve individual research, making notes in preparation for a class, writing essays, reading around a subject, or discussing work with your fellow students.
